Tears-I feel so weak when I can't control the filling of my eyes.
Tears-a sign of vulnerability, loss of control, tenderness, and weakness.
Tears-created by God to remind me of my own vulnerability, lack of control, weakness, and how desperately I need to remain tender to the things that make His own heart stir.
Psalm 84:5-7 "Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength. Blessed are those whose strength is in you, each one appears before God in Zion."
Defining the terms:
Baca means misery, tears, weeping.
A valley is a geographical low place.
Considering the layout of the poem:
Vs 5-Strength
Vs 6-Tears
Vs 7-Strength
Application:
Vs 5-A truly joyful person finds his strength as he focuses on the homeland of God-Zion. Zion is the place of God's promises, God's presence, and God's unquestioned ruling authority.
Vs 6-As this joyful and strong person goes through the low places of tears and misery, he finds God creating a well of nutrients for his soul as he cries out for guidance, faith, and comfort during the heartaches of life. In the same way that earth needs the early spring rains to prepare for the time of planting and harvesting, our souls need times of storms and resulting tears to prepare our hearts for God's planting and harvesting of godly character traits and a deeper relationship between His creature and Him.
Vs 7-Repetition of verse 5 as the Psalmist states the Source of our strength. Then he ends with a beautiful phrase "each one appears before God in Zion." My visage appears before the presence of my Heavenly Father, my King of kings, the Sovereign One. He sees me; He knows me. He is watching over me and ready to cover me with His wings of comfort-not to hide me from the storm and tears; but to comfort me in the midst of the storm and to help me catch my tears to create that well. This well of tears will provide further strength for the days and weeks ahead.
There are treasures in the tears if we view those tears through God's eyes.
