1 Corinthians 1:4-9
- "I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus"-A prayer of thanksgiving for one's salvation through Jesus Christ. There is common ground between the one praying and the one being prayed for; this shows a relationship within a family. Do I see this individual as a brother or sister in Christ?
- "that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge"-A prayer for influence. Do I pray that his speech patterns and knowledge of the situation, human nature, and God's ways of would be saturated/enriched with Scripture and God's character? Do I pray that he will be so enriched with Biblical knowledge and understanding that this will pour out in the lives of those he is around.
- "even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you-so that you were not lacking in any spiritual gift"-A prayer for fruitfulness. Do I pray that Christ would be so working in this person's life that he would bear the right fruit of the Spirit at the right time so others would see Christ only in his life?
- "as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ"-A prayer of hope. Do I pray that as this one sees God working, he will come to realize that heaven is much closer than many of us realize? There is hope beyond the most hopeless situations because we serve the eternal God whose will on earth will be accomplished just as it is in Heaven.
- "who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ." A prayer of victory. Do I pray for victory in the life of this one? Victory over discouragement, frustration, temptation, and sin habits?
- "God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." Do I pray that this person would relay only on the faithfulness of God to see him through difficult times and overwhelming circumstances?
Did I pray God's will for those on my prayer list today or did I simply pray Jenn's will for their life? Which will is eternal and will make them more like Christ? Which prayer will make them a trophy of God's grace on display for the watching world to see and to inquire about?
